The Pioneer Springs Trail is one of the most popular paths in Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park. The trail begins right next to Poplar Tree Lake, immediately dives into the forest, and then disappears into the trees following blue blazes on the trees the entire time. This trail offers a lot of solitude and deteriorates the further into the woods you travel.

Pine Lake is a small reservoir just off the side of the Chickasaw Trail. The view from the trail is a good excuse for a break, and you can even start and finish your walk close to here at one of the park's main parking lots.

Hyde Lake is a beautiful reservoir right in the middle of Shelby Farms Park. There is a completely paved path that circles around the water that is popular amongst runners, walkers, and cyclists, and there is a separate commuter trail that also offers access to the loop trail.
