In the 17th century, Abbot Heinrich VI Dücker of Werden (1646–1667) acquired Schuir Castle (approximately a distance from the current manor house). In 1792, Abbot Bernhard II of Werden (1780–1798) built a new, Neoclassical building on the opposite side of the street. This was subsequently used as the summer residence of Werden Abbey.
