Old town route – Kettwiger PanoramaSteig side loop

The first highlight on the old town route, which starts at the Kettwig swimming pool, is the Erlenhof. In 1990, it became the first Icelandic horse farm in the entire Ruhr area. From there, the route takes you to the Maria im Maien pilgrimage chapel. Before you reach the Kammesheidt family farm, you will be treated to a wonderful view of the Ruhr heights above the farm.

From the Kammesheidt farm, it is not far to the Rutherhof. Here you can play swingolf, among other things. The next impressive view awaits you on the Ruhrtalstrasse. Here you can let your gaze wander as far as the idyllic Werden district. The route continues to the Kettwig city forest, which is around 109 hectares in size and offers not only lots of greenery but also beautiful views. Once you have made it to the Bilstein, you will be rewarded with a gigantic panoramic view at the top.

Now it's time to hike down to the old Kettwig train station. Where passengers once waited for their trains, there is now a community and cultural center. Your path takes you past the Kettwig railway bridge into Kettwig's old town. There, surrounded by idyllic half-timbered houses, you can reward yourself for your hike with a drink or snack.
