The castle was probably built in the 12th century. The dominion of the noblemen von Neideck was first mentioned in 1217. In 1239, Knight Heinrich von Neideck was in the entourage of Count Wolfrad von Veringen at the Leutkirch Treaty between the monasteries of Isny and Kempten. In 1293, Heinrich von Neideck was "district judge on the Leutkirch Heath and at Wangen". In 1493, the castle and dominion were sold and, after several changes of ownership, were united with the dominion of Trauchburg in 1780. Of the former castle complex, which covered an area of 40 by 50 meters, a square palace-like residential building, now privately owned, with the remains of a high medieval castle tower on a floor area of 11 by 11 meters has been preserved. The knights' hall and the castle dungeon have been preserved. The castle chapel was demolished in 1884.

We also stopped after the last jetty today because the water was still about 15cm deep in the shallow areas (and temperatures around zero degrees). Really amazing scenery. It's a shame that the jetties weren't moved further.

Unfortunately not passable in winter, the footbridges are sometimes easily 50m too short and you would practically need a rubber dinghy. Still a great hike but crossing the moor in winter is unfortunately impossible
