It was expanded, together with its retention basin, around 1934 during the Great Depression as a job creation measure through a voluntary labor service. This was intended to facilitate the drainage of the moor. South of the retention basin, there is a memorial stone for the voluntary labor service. Large parts of the Raakmoorgraben already existed before 1934, which is recognizable on a map from the 19th century. It begins north of the Raakmoor and runs from there for a large part of its course on the border between Hamburg-Hummelsbüttel and Hamburg-Langenhorn. On its way south, it flows through the Raakmoor, the Herzmoorgraben flows into it, further through a large retention basin, after which it receives inflow from the Hummelsbütteler Moorgraben. Then it leaves the Raakmoor, crosses under the Ring 3 and the road Moorreye, after which it flows through a retention basin again. It crosses under the Flughafenstraße and now runs in Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel, crosses under the road Ohkamp and the subway line – immediately before this from the right and north inflow of the Ohlmoorgraben – as well as the Langenhorner Chaussee and again the Flughafenstraße. There, the Rodenkampgraben flows into it through a water basin. After that, it crosses under the B433 and flows, partly underground, on the grounds of Hamburg Airport. There it receives further inflow from the Jugendparkgraben, the Holtkoppelgraben and the Westerrodegraben, in addition, there is a connection to the Rodenkampgraben. West of the airport grounds, it flows into the Tarpenbek on the border with Hamburg-Niendorf.

The path is not particularly special for cyclists, quite bumpy. It is located in a swamp or moorland area, after heavy rainfall it may not be passable - I have experienced that.
