The giant clogs along the Smokkelaarsroute in the Antwerp Kempen serve as signposts and symbolize the exciting cat-and-mouse game between smugglers and customs officers of the past. The eleven large clogs mark the route through the border region. The clogs have an imprint that points in the opposite direction. This is a nod to a clever trick by smugglers: they sometimes turned their clogs around so that the customs officers thought they were walking in the other direction. At each clog, you will find information or a QR code with which you can listen to local history and smuggling stories.
