The area of 20 hectares was redeveloped and converted into Park Halfweg. It forms a link between the larger green areas in the area. There is a connection for slow traffic (walkers and cyclists) on the side of the Leie.
The layout of the park refers to the site's past. There used to be a bleaching plant, Alsberghe-Van Oost. Remnants of walls and remains of the factory can still be seen in the park. Furthermore, stepping stones refer to the former railway line Westerringspoor.
