No, @Walker, the park was not initiated by Adenauer. Because in 1962, as Chancellor, Adenauer had other things to do. The driving force was rather city director Hans Berge. It is only true that Berge argued with the green plan decided in 1922 under Mayor Adenauer, to stop land speculation in front of this area. A memorial stone for Berge stands 50 m next to the Japanese Gate.

The 7 peacocks are all over the park, not just on the peacock meadow. In compensation, there are two sculptures on the peacock meadow: "Thron" by Stefan Keiser (sandstone + iron) "Vogel" by Cestmir Janosek (concrete base + iron) All other sculptures in the photos are elsewhere. Folks, that makes no sense.

Fühlinger See is not a single lake, but a large recreational area comprised of several interconnected artificial lakes in the north of Cologne-Fühlingen. Gravel was extracted here starting in 1912 for railway and road construction. The deep pits filled with groundwater due to the proximity of the Rhine. From 1967 onward, the area was recultivated and developed as a leisure and recreation area.

Yes, Cologne has many family-friendly options. Urban parks such as Rheinpark and the Flora and Botanical Garden are perfect for leisurely strolls. The Dünnwald Wildlife Park also offers free access to wildlife enclosures and is a great spot for families.
