A spell that everyone should heed, someone scratched into the bank. "Do not make a capodd"!

Pool 3 is a former gravel pit that has been filled with water and is now part of a nature conservation project. Sea cans grow here and rare dragonfly species find a favorable habitat there.

Here a narrow path leads directly to the bank of basin 3. Nice viewpoint on clear water.

Giesbach Stream

Highlight • River

The Giesbach is a small, near-natural forest stream in the Königsforst forest east of Cologne.

Its source lies in the eastern Königsforst in the Rösrath/Forsbach area, where it is fed by several damp forest hollows.

Along the Cologne Trail through the Wahner Heide (the second largest nature reserve in North Rhine-Westphalia), there are several of these Tünnes and Schäl signs (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%BCnnes_und_Sch%C3%A4l), which mean that the Wahner Heide should not be misused as a garbage dump.

The well-signposted circular hiking trail leads over wide forest and heathland paths (simply follow the "Libelle" symbol) and starts near the gravel pit called "Pioneer Training Pool 3", which was closed in 1986.
Past the loading ramp, which was dismantled in 2011, you reach basin 2 - also a former gravel pit, with significantly larger dimensions and mostly dry.

My second lap took me just a few kilometers further to the Wahner Heide Tour Eilerberg.
Landscape with forest, meadows, open spaces and the pool 3, an artificial pond, a very nice hiking trail. . The markings on the first piece are very sparse or overgrown. On the first third of the way, I found the constant traffic noise of …

Owning the 9 € monthly pass made us drive to the Wahner Heide to finally do the Eilerberg Tour hike. The actual hike is just right for this hot weather, it goes almost entirely through the forest. Only the somewhat long access road was on a busy road.

Nice, comfortable hiking route through the autumnal Königsforst. Colorful foliage in the sunshine. Infinite number of route variations. Easy parking in many places. Signposted routes. Recommendation for inexperienced hikers or walkers.

Very nice tour along the 3 Pioneer Basins, which were formerly used for sand and gravel mining. The tour is based on the existing Basin 3 tour with a few minor adjustments.
