Very nice route through the forest, crisp and with hardly any traffic. But hardly any panorama because of all the trees ;-)

When I contacted the park authority, they informed me that outside the Hermitage it is not possible to have barbecues or light open flames.

From Montepiano you go up to Monte Tavianella and then descend to the Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine delle Grazie di Boccadirio. Splendid even during the summer heat because it unfolds between cool inhabited areas.

This artificial lake, dating back to the early 1900s, was created by the Italian State Railways to power the Bologna-Pistoia railway line. It is located within the Suviana and Brasimone Lakes Regional Park. On its south-eastern coast stands the Brasimone Research Center of ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Development). Here, according to a project dating back to the 1970s, a nuclear reactor was supposed to be built. However, work was suspended following the Chernobyl accident in 1986 and the abrogative referendums of 1987 and the structure was converted and repurposed. The lake is a very popular destination both for holidays and for outdoor sports, in particular it is very popular with those who practice triathlon. In fact, several triathlon events and competitions, including some of international importance, take place here every year.
