At the foot of the Hohenstein recreational area lies the Hammerteich🌊. Today a listed monument, a waterway for local model boat builders🚤 and a popular recreational area, the pond was originally created for a hammer mill. In 1722, the Hammerteich was dammed on behalf of Peter Lange, a manufacturer from Remscheid, – to supply energy for the forge. However, the mill went bankrupt as early as 1741. There were several changes of ownership before operations ceased in 1892. The city of Witten bought the land around the Hammerteich and incorporated it into the planning of the new Hohenstein city forest.

The name says it all. The ice cream flavors are super delicious and homemade. The service is very friendly. The price-performance ratio is right. Overall, a visit is highly recommended! Only downside: Unfortunately, there are no seats at the ice cream parlor and therefore only ice cream to take away.
