The monument erected in honor of Cyril and Methodius underscores the Sorbs' connection with other Slavic peoples. A monument was erected near the historic Via Regia in honor of Cyril and Methodius. These Byzantine scholars and priests from Thessaloniki were the Christian missionaries to the Slavic peoples in the 9th century. For this reason, the two brothers are also called "Apostles of the Slavs." The greatest achievement of the two brothers lies in their emphasis on the Slavic mother tongue and the cultural independence of the Slavic peoples. In the mid-19th century, Pastor Michał Hórnik and his like-minded friends founded the Cyril-Methodius Society. Although it has now been proven that the Sorbs were evangelized by the Diocese of Meissen, the Sorbs continue to venerate Cyril and Methodius. In 2000, the society erected the Millennium Monument at its present location.

The richly decorated entrance gate to Milkel Castle was named so because the route to Franconia led through here. Everything was renovated or rebuilt after 1998. It's great that we can admire it again today and that people have found their home there.
