Since the church is located at an intersection, it is a bit noisy, but the building itself is very beautiful inside and you can't hear any street noise inside.

The first church was probably built between the 9th and 11th centuries on the Lengerich property of the Herford Convent. A second church, which is known to have been built of stone, was built in the second half of the 12th century. A third church on the same site dates from the second quarter of the 13th century. Documents from 1327 attest that it housed an altar dedicated to Saint Margaret. Between 1320 and 1530, a supposedly miraculous statue of Saint Margaret inside the church attracted many pilgrims from northern Germany. The church soon became too small to serve as a place of pilgrimage and was therefore expanded starting in the second half of the 14th century. With the completion of the renovations in 1497, the church took on its present form. The floor space of the now late Gothic hall church was significantly enlarged with the renovation. In 1527, Count Konrad von Tecklenburg introduced the Reformation in the Rheda lordship. It was probably only after taking over the throne in 1534 that he ended the veneration of Saint Margaret and removed her supposedly miraculous statue from the church. His grandson, Arnold II (IV) of Bentheim-Tecklenburg, replaced the Lutheran confession with the Reformed confession in 1588, to which the congregation of the town church still adheres today.
