At the beginning of May 2026, I walked the premium circular hiking trail „Canyon-Blick“. Gut Stapenhorst is one of the many big and small highlights of this Teuto loop!

The hall is located on the site of the former Gempt factory in the heart of Lengerich, directly adjacent to the pedestrian zone. It was built in 1917 as an annealing furnace hall for the production of wire ropes. After the decline of wire rope production, the Windmöller & Hölscher machine factory built a modern foundry in 1957, using the large industrial hall of the Gempt factory for this purpose. It was closed in 1991 and then used for a long time only as a warehouse. The site was purchased by Lengericher Grundstücks- und Erschließungsgesellschaft mbH (LGE) in July 1996, and the city of Lengerich commissioned a report on its future development. Since April 2002, the Gempt Community Center concept has been funded as part of the Regionale 2004 program. Starting in the fall of 2002, the Gempt Hall was renovated and restored and converted into a cultural event venue. It reopened on September 10, 2004. All that remains of the old Gempt factory is the hall and a chimney with a water tank. Residential buildings have been built on the rest of the site.
