The tower and presbytery of this church are all that remain. The nave of the church was extended in 1716 and the entire interior was given a baroque makeover. In 1386, Pettneu became a chaplaincy with its own pastor; in 1582 it became a curate and in 1891 an independent parish. The ceiling paintings were created by the Tyrolean painter Kirchöbner. The original, carved Stations of the Cross date from the time of Empress Maria Theresa. Apparently, the faces depicted are those of Pettneu's "originals".

The parish church of the Assumption of Mary is a Roman Catholic church in the Dorf district of the municipality of Pettneu am Arlberg. The late Gothic church building with a mighty north tower is surrounded by a cemetery. The existing core from the second half of the 15th century was mentioned in a document in 1385. It was rebuilt from 1716 to 1717 and consecrated in 1721. On the outside, the nave has triangular struts, the recessed choir has a bevelled base, a cornice and corner pilasters with tracery gables. The tower on the north side of the choir has masonry from the 13th century and a painted corner ashlar and a bell storey set off by a cornice and a gable pointed helmet, the windows and sound windows are pointed arches and round arches, some coupled and some with tracery. A painting of St. Christopher on the north wall of the tower was painted by the painter Anton Spieß in 1933. The west portal has a shallow triple groove and round bars, the pointed-arch north portal is walled up. To the west is a baroque barrel-vaulted vestibule with a gable roof and round-arched entrances on the sides. In 1964, a sacristy was added to the south.
