It's a beautiful view of the Hudson River with a pleasant breeze. The path up on Ferry Road is an easy, relaxing ride. A great midpoint to rest and reset.

Bridge footings still intact at the site of the crossing. To continue north west travel along the northern side of the trail, bushwhacking west starting when the Kakiat trail crosses the river south.

approx 70 meters hike-your-bike to Big Shelter. Watch your rear-derailleur when pushing your bike in between some of the bigger rocks on the path.

Trying to reach Big Shelter from this side is much better via bike. There are a few hike-your-bike sections but those are much shorter than when attempting to reach on Old Turnpike from the west.

The summit is about 1,240 ft. above sea level. Lots of small flies (at least when we were there), and the views are so-so, BUT the scramble is so much fun, especially on the western side. Do this one for the thrill of the climb!
