In 1991, the foundations were poured, and on June 10, 1992, the actual construction of the church began. On September 29, 1992, the cornerstone was laid by the First Bishop of the newly established Łowicz Diocese, Bishop Alojzy Orszulik. The walls of the new church quickly began to rise, and by the end of 1992, they were already 4.8 meters high. The foundations for the towers were also laid. Construction began again in the spring of the following year. Work on the roof was completed in 1994. At the same time, the construction of the church towers was completed. The new church was completed in its shell state in the spring of 1995. Further work was carried out as funds were raised. The turning point was the location of the place of celebration of the Holy Mass on the square next to the new church during the Holy Father's pilgrimage to his homeland in 1999. The next 2 years were spent equipping the interior of the church and preparing for its consecration. On September 22, 2001, 11 years after the parish was established, the church was consecrated by Alojzy Orszulik, Bishop of Łowicz. The church was built in the style of an old Romanesque basilica. Two towers, symmetrically incorporated into the front of the church, constitute the dignity of the entire building. Inside, the high main nave ends with a spacious presbytery, which was designed and built by a team led by the visual artist Jerzy Machaj from Warsaw. On its central wall is placed the Crucified Christ, and below Him two figures: Our Lady of Sorrows and the beloved disciple John.

Coming from Nieborów on the asphalt road, Komoot tells you to turn left, but there's no road. Instead, turn left into the "hole" in the fence. Behind it are benches for resting. The bridge shown in the photos is in poor condition, so I suggest dismounting your bike on the descent.

It was built in the 12th century and is the oldest in the city. The current Baroque church dates back to the 17th century and was consecrated on October 14, 1668. Since September 25, 1433, the parish church has been a collegiate church. On March 25, 1992, by the papal bull Totus Tuus Poloniae Populus, the collegiate church was raised to the dignity of a cathedral. During his 7th pilgrimage to his homeland, visiting Łowicz, Pope John Paul II, on June 14, 1999, gave it the title of minor basilica. The church is located in the city center at the Old Market Square. https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parafia_Wniebowzi%C4%99cia_Naj%C5%9Bwi%C4%99tszej_Maryi_Panny_w_%C5%81owiczu
