The castle is perched on a rugged rocky spur, from which it dominates the Alto Garda plain. Of the ancient fortress, the towers, part of the curtain walls and some ruined buildings remain intact, which suffered numerous assaults over the centuries. The last one was by French troops in August 1703, while the War of the Spanish Succession was being fought. Inside Arco Castle, thanks to a recent restoration, you can visit the Prigione del Sasso and the Torre Grande, whose walls are decorated with a splendid cycle of secular frescoes from the 14th century depicting ladies playing chess.

Monte Brione was formed following tectonic movements and geological and geomorphological events related to the glaciations that shaped the Alto Garda basin. On the mountain, there are remains left by the Austro-Hungarian army, which fortified it from 1862 to 1911. The area is indeed characterized by the presence of numerous fortifications and war remains dating back to the Great War. The mountain is today a protected area established in 1992
