To start your journey, you can reach Brunate by taking the historic funicular from Como; the ride itself provides captivating views. Be prepared for a demanding initial climb from the funicular station towards the Volta Lighthouse, which features an almost 15% gradient and steps to assist you. This trail requires good fitness and sure-footedness, but the paths are generally accessible. Capanna Cao, a mountain hut along the route, is also reachable by car if you prefer.

The Faro Voltiano, or Volta Lighthouse, is a key landmark on this route, built in 1927 to honor Alessandro Volta. You can climb its 143-step spiral staircase for a 360-degree view, extending to the Western Alps and Monte Rosa on clear days. The Capanna Cao offers a welcoming stop with traditional Lombard cuisine and outdoor seating, providing more opportunities to enjoy the views of Lake Como and the Alps.
