Reformed Church Heenvliet

Highlight • Religious Site

The Herv. church in Heenvliet MEANING & DEFINITION
The Herv. Church (Kerkweg 1), originally dedicated to St. Maarten, is a single-aisled church with a north aisle and sacristy, a five-sided closed choir and a gable tower.

An originally larger late 14th-century church was shortened on the west side in 1824, with the west and south facades being renovated. Clocks by Petrus van den Ghein (1534) and Cornelis Ouderogge (1634) hang in the gable tower, which was also erected at the time.

The church was restored in 1931, the tower in 1954-55. Internally, the dividing wall between nave and aisle has a shining riforium and arches resting on columns with cabbage-leaf capitals (circa 1400; stripped of plaster in 1931).

The inventory includes a Mannerist Ten Commandments board (1599), a pulpit decorated with marquetry (circa 1600), a baptismal gate with baptismal arches and several gentlemen's benches (all second quarter 17th century).

De Hoecksack

Highlight • Restaurant

A cozy relaxed atmosphere, a pleasant decor and people who take care of your afternoon or evening with care and dedication, make a visit definitely worthwhile. The restaurant offers a choice between a monthly menu or an á la carte choice and this is of course accompanied by surprising, beautiful wines.

Bernisse is both the old river arm that separates the islands of Voorne and Putten, and the nature and recreation area that has been created around this old river arm and associated creeks.
The Bernisse is 7 kilometers long, starts at Heenvliet and runs along Abbenbroek, Zuidland and Simonshaven to the Spui.

Bernisse Recreation Area

Highlight • Lake

You can row, canoe, surf and of course swim. Sailing with motor boats is not allowed, this is a beautiful area for bird watchers and fishermen. The cycle paths connect the historic village centers with Spijkenisse. In the recreation area De Bernisse you can enjoy various swimming locations. In Zuidland there is a beach on the east and west side of the Stompaardseplas. Much of this lake is used as a surfing lake. On the west side of Zuidland is a 'floundering pond' especially for young children. In Simonshaven there is a large beach at the Stompaardseplas In the Hoenderhoek you will find a beach on the east side located at a day camping site. By crossing the Gemeenlandse Rak you will arrive at the beach on the east side of Abbenbroek. Here you can surf and fish. At most beaches there are small catering tents and you can use the play and sunbathing areas. The areas are easily accessible by car and bicycle and offer plenty of parking options. Walking paths and cycling routes have been laid out everywhere.
