From the summit of Mount Cougal East, there is a less used and less defined track dropping steeply downhill toward Mount Cougal West. This is Grade 5, and challenging. From the saddle ridge between the peaks, follow a very narrow, heavily overgrown, knife-edge ridge connecting to the west peak scramble. Scramble up to the tree-covered summit of Mount Cougal West. Most bushwalkers turn around at Mount Cougal East as the western peak is heavily shrouded by trees and reeds, with almost no views compared to East Peak, and it's much more challenging with a harder to follow trail.
