Beavers have been returning to southern Lower Saxony for several years now – here and further south along the Hammenstedt stream, they have skillfully constructed dams. Gnawed trees and bushes are plentiful, as are "beaver slides" on which the animals slide into and out of the water. Plastic pipes installed by humans in the dams ensure that the path doesn't flood.
