Artist Dany Tulkens designed the eight-meter-high balloon in 1988, commissioned by the Verbond der Jaartallen as a gift to the city. He wanted to say that with friends around you, you can transcend everyday worries. The statue stood on the Herbert Hooverplein for almost 30 years. The balloon now stands on the flowerbed at the De Lijn bus station on the Plein van Vriendschap near the Diestsestraat
