Hiking
Hasselaar Louis Willems was an eminent scientist in the previous century, but will forever be connected to the city through the development of his vaccine against the pneumonic plague, which saved Jeneverstad Hasselt from economic ruin.
The city of Hasselt organised a competition for the design of this statue. An independent jury awarded the design by Luc Steegen. The realisation of this monument was made possible with the support of Rotary Hasselt-Herkenrode.
