You see them from afar, like a concrete beacon: the vertical lift bridge over the Brussels-Scheldt Sea Canal that connects the north and south of Tisselt.
The bridge was built in 1968 and has a metal movable section with a length of 38.4 m and a width of 11.6 m. The bridge is identical in dimensions to the Humbeek Bridge and the Verbrande Brug in Grimbergen that were built in the same year.
Since January 2009, the Brielen Bridge has been operated remotely from the central control post of Waterwegen en Zeekanaal in Willebroek.
