This striking statue was created by artist Ray Lonsdale. Found close to the Seaham war memorial on the seafront, the huge steel soldier depicts a soldier from World War I. The statue was displayed in 2014. Originally, it was temporary, but residents raised £102,000 to make it a permanent fixture on the seafront.

It was originally created for a private buyer and was located in its current spot until ready to be moved. However, the people of Seaham became so attached the creator offered it to Seaham for a far cheaper price. Seaham folk, myself included raised the required sum and bought it. It is a remarkable statue and so iconic.

Tommy is a statue of a First World War soldier by Ray Lonsdale. It's officially named 1101 which refers to the first minute of peace after the armistice was signed at 11:00 on the 11th of November 1918.
The statue was displayed in Seaham from 2014 but only intended to be temporary. Residents rallied together and bought the statue, so it was relocated to its current position in 2015.
