Until the merger in 1977, Erembodegem was an independent municipality.
During the merger, the municipality was split up, with the two sub-municipalities each being added to another municipality: Erembodegem itself near Aalst and Terjoden near Haaltert.
The town hall is now a police station.
It is a square building in neo-Gothic style with a double staircase with landing (and crenellated turrets), quite typical of town halls of that time, dating from 1874.
In March 2014, the building (and the adjacent school) was seriously damaged by a fire.
