    Hiking

The first St. Martin's Church, or Saint Martin's Church, in Vissenaken was built of cobblestones and bluestone and covered with a slate roof. Around 1100, a (new) Romanesque church was constructed. According to tradition, Saint Hymelinus was buried there in 631, making the church a center of popular devotion.

For centuries, pilgrims from all over the world flocked to it.

In 1778, St. Martin's Church was demolished. The relics of Saint Hymelinus were temporarily moved to the Church of Saint Peter in Vissenaken.

At the inauguration of the new St. Martin's Church in 1785, the relics were returned.
