Embark on a difficult road cycling adventure with the Tyndrum to Inverary loop, covering 73.1 miles (117.7 km) and climbing 3493 feet (1065 metres) over approximately 5 hours and 9 minutes. This challenging route takes you through stunning Scottish Highland scenery, offering views of long sea lochs like Loch Fyne and freshwater Loch Awe, bordered by forested hills and the distant Arrochar Alps. You will pass impressive mountains such as Ben More and Ben Dorain, and can spot historic Kilchurn Castle along the way.
When planning your ride, be aware that the A83 is generally busy and not ideal for cycling. A better option for part of the journey is the A819, which provides a quieter and safer alternative, including a glorious descent into Inveraray. While there's a new path bypassing the A82 near Tyndrum, it may not be suitable for racebikes due to sections designed for walking and trail bikes. Carefully select your roads to avoid unpaved or excessively rugged terrain, ensuring a smooth ride on your racebike.
This loop is a core part of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, offering a rich blend of natural beauty and historical interest. The region features diverse terrain, from lochside paths to challenging climbs through glens. Passing by sites like the beautifully restored Dalmally station adds cultural value to your ride. The constant presence of lochs, glens, and mountains provides a continuously inspiring backdrop, making this a notable journey for experienced road cyclists.

Planning your visit requires good fitness for this moderate ride. Tyndrum serves as a bustling village and transport hub, offering popular stops like "The Green Welly" for refreshments.
