Historical information: Interescaut is the former Electrabel power station, located along the Scheldt River at the mouth of the Rupel River.
The once-largest coal-fired power station in Europe was inaugurated in 1930.
Steam boilers and turbines continued to operate for seventy years, until electricity production ceased in 2000. In 2016, Electrabel ceased all operations.
In addition to the impressive buildings, such as the old Turbine Hall and the adjacent office buildings, the site covers an area of over 70 hectares on the banks of the Scheldt River.
