A small Umbrian village, whose name derives from the nymph Agilla, in love with Trasimeno, son of the Do Tirreno. The village, over 400 meters above sea level, dominates the Capanne plain on one side and Trasimeno on the other. It is immersed in the Umbrian countryside, and can be reached from various sides, with climbs that are never banal, and gradients in some places in double figures, even if all rather short. Worth seeing is the castle, dating back to the 12th century.

Agello dominates the valleys that extend from Perugia towards the Trasimeno and towards Città della Pieve. It can be reached from several sides, always with fairly steep climbs. deserves!

Castel Rigone and Lake Trasimeno – loop from Perugia

    77.9km

    03:55

    1,230m

    1,230m

This difficult road cycling loop covers 48.4 miles (77.9 km) with a significant elevation gain of 4029 feet (1228 metres), taking around 3 hours and 55 minutes to complete. Starting in Perugia, you will pass through green urban areas before reaching the delightful countryside near the Trasimeno Mountains. The route features challenging climbs, especially to Castel Rigone, a medieval village offering wide views of Lake Trasimeno and the surrounding landscape. Along the way, you will cycle past olive groves, vineyards, and the shores of Lake Trasimeno, experiencing a mix of gentle and challenging ascents. You can also spot rich birdlife and other medieval villages.

This demanding road cycling loop requires very good fitness due to its length and considerable elevation gain. While primarily on well-paved roads, be prepared for some unpaved segments that might require you to push your bike. The region around Perugia features rolling hills and varied terrain, so expect a mix of surfaces. Plan your ride carefully, considering the significant climbs and the overall duration of nearly four hours.

This loop is a notable challenge for experienced road cyclists seeking a demanding ride in Umbria. The rewarding views from Castel Rigone, overlooking Lake Trasimeno, are a key attraction. You might also pass San Feliciano, known as the "village of sunsets," providing views of Polvese Island. This route is specifically tailored as a road ride, distinct from other cycling paths in the area that may include dirt sections.
