The crossroads at the Ravenstein-Hütte are said to have been a French occupation post of the then "Mainzer Brückenkopf" from 1919 to 1924. Another interpretation assumes the proximity to the Custine-Schanzen, which were erected by French troops in the First Coalition War of 1792. Source: Taunusclub
