    Road cycling

From the north, starting with a 25% ascent for 250m, followed by around 3 miles of steady uphill. That first steep climb takes it out of you and makes the rest of the ascent harder than it would otherwise be. But it's a quiet road with good views, and worth the effort. Plus you get the pay off of a long, steep descent into Askrigg

Pace yourself up the 25% ramp at the bottom. It is longer than it first seems!
Once over this ‘obstacle’ the rest of the climb is fairly modest, only a little steeper again on the final 100 meters.
Great views from the top and chance for a well earners rest before the steep descent into Askrigg.
