    Hiking

The Focetta di San Vincenzo is a large pass located at 912 m above sea level on the narrow coast that joins the Col di Pardini to the relief of Mount Prana and separates the Val Pedogna from the Valle del Lombricese, connecting them. The inhabited villages closest to the focetta are Metato on the Camaiore side and Convalle on the Pescara side, both reachable by well-marked CAI paths.

great trail, from start to finish, beautiful views and chestnut forests with streams and huts. We did not encounter any tick-infested areas. Highly recommended hike for families with small children.

From Monte Prano to Monte Prana – loop tour

    13.1km

    05:00

    670m

    690m

Embark on the difficult 8.1-mile (13.1 km) loop hike from Monte Prano to Monte Prana, climbing 2197 feet (670 metres) over about 5 hours. This trail takes you through diverse terrain, from natural paths and unpaved sections to gravel parts, often crossing mountain hiking paths. You will experience the plateau-like landscape around Monte Prano before reaching the bare, slender summit of Monte Prana, marked by a monumental cross. From here, enjoy panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Versilia coast, and the Apuan Alps.

While generally considered a moderate hike, this route is classified as difficult and requires good fitness and sure-footedness. Some variations of the ascent to Monte Prana, such as from Foce Lucese or via path 101 from Lucese, are described as easier, offering a pleasant mountain walk. However, be prepared for sections that demand very good fitness, especially given the significant elevation gain and duration of this specific loop. Plan your visit with adequate preparation for a challenging yet rewarding experience.

This loop tour offers a complete experience, connecting two distinct peaks: Monte Prano and the more prominent Monte Prana, the southernmost peak of the Apuan Alps. Along the way, you might encounter the Casa del Maestro Mountain Hut, a renovated old family home that serves as a significant waypoint. The trail also crosses a karstic plateau on Monte Prana's northern slopes, featuring dolines and small rocky ridges, adding to the unique geological interest of the area.
