This chapel is a reduced model of the chapel of Our Lady of Banneux and was built at the initiative of the local community, following a promise made during the Second World War. On 10-08-1952 the chapel was opened by Mgr. Kerkhofs, Bishop of Liège.

At the corner of Grote Haart and Kleine Haart (street names) and Kapelstraat in Hamont-Achel stands the Chapel of De Haart, also known as the Chapel of Our Lady of the Arms. The chapel was built in 1952 by the hamlet's residents in gratitude for being spared from bombing and crashed aircraft during World War II, despite several British bombers falling in the area.
