The wall of Alzira is a thousand-year-old jewel of the Valencian cultural heritage. The wall was bordered by the river Xúquer during the Muslim rule and provided shelter to the inhabitants of Vila d'Alzira in different military actions, as well as dealing with the river's overflows. Its origin probably dates back to the 9th century, although the remains that can still be seen date from the 12th - it was probably modified following the techniques of the time - to follow a mixture of styles and procedures based on the Almohad style.
