Embark on the Gatton Park Past and Present Walk, an easy hiking route that guides you through historic parkland. This circular trail covers 2.1 miles (3.4 km) with a gentle elevation gain of 238 feet (73 metres), taking approximately 57 minutes to complete. As you hike, you will discover picturesque views of serpentine lakes and islands of trees, all part of a landscape designed by Capability Brown. Keep an eye out for the unique Millennium Stones, a modern stone circle with inscribed literary quotes. The path offers a relaxing stroll, revealing glimpses of the North Downs ridge.

Before you set out, be aware that while the trail is easy, it does feature some undulating terrain. You might encounter steep gradients and uneven, stony surfaces, particularly if the weather has been wet. For your comfort and safety, good walking shoes are highly recommended to navigate these sections. Access to Gatton Park is straightforward, with parking available at several points within the park. Consider visiting during bluebell season for an especially vibrant experience, though the park offers beauty year-round.

This route stands out as a prime example of 18th-century landscape design, showcasing the vision of Lancelot "Capability" Brown. Beyond the designed features, the trail offers a chance to connect with nature, especially when Nut Wood transforms into a carpet of bluebells. The blend of historical design and natural beauty makes this walk a notable experience in the region. It provides a peaceful escape, allowing you to appreciate both past artistry and present-day tranquility.
