    Breakheart Plantation is a beautiful forest located in the north-western area of the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. The forest largely comprises deciduous trees, which make an enchanting location for a leisurely stroll.

    A beautiful section of this walk. Very steep in parts (-12% gradient) so make sure you are in a low gear 😁. And if you are lucky you will see deer crossing your path.

    Embark on an easy 3.5-mile (5.6 km) hike around the Belas Knap Long Barrow loop, a route that takes you through varied terrain including grassy paths, quiet country roads, and serene woodlands. You will gain 483 feet (147 metres) in elevation, and the entire journey typically takes about 1 hour and 38 minutes to complete. As you walk, you can enjoy spectacular views over the surrounding Cotswolds countryside, including panoramic vistas of Winchcombe and the historic Sudeley Castle.

    When planning your visit, be aware that while the trail is rated easy, some sections do involve steep ascents. You will also encounter several stiles and kissing gates along the way. For your comfort and safety, sturdy hiking shoes are highly recommended, especially if the ground is wet or muddy after rain. Parking is generally available near the trailhead, making access straightforward for those arriving by car.

    This route's highlight is the Belas Knap Long Barrow itself, a significant Neolithic burial site dating back over 5,500 years. This ancient monument features a distinctive false entrance, offering a fascinating glimpse into prehistoric times.
