In front of this sanctuary dedicated to the Mother of God with a depiction of Mary with the Child Jesus, I would like to pass on a short thought from Albino Luciani (Patriarch of Venice / later Pope John Paul I) to those who linger here: „Madonna of the people, this is an expression that I like very much. It means, it seems to me, that the people know Mary is near, be it as a Mother who cares for her children, or as a Sister who – at least partially – has walked the same path that we are walking. In the most proper sense, Mary is the Mother of Christ and thus the Mother of God. Christ, however, is our elder brother, the head of the whole Christian family. So we too may call her Mother: Mother of the Church, Mother of each one of us.“

Even on April 14, 2024, the ascent to the Bastberg was not possible after the signposting (weather good for hiking but still very high risk of slipping, muddy and surface water!!!), another ascent should be signposted - I found one 300m towards the town then up the meadow on the right.

The climb to Bastberg is an unreasonable task in rainy weather, with a very high risk of slipping. This comment applies to some sections (climbs) of the “Beaver Path” circuit. Good sure-footedness is also required.
