In the face of the small sacred monument towering here, which bears the very special dedication as a CROSS OF PEACE into the unrest of the world, I invite you to a short spiritual pause. To this end, some thoughts from Pierbattista Cardinal Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, who connects the Easter message of the Resurrection with the hope for peace: + “The last word of God is the empty tomb. It is the Lord who goes before the disciples to Galilee and also goes before us, leading us to a peace that is not an illusion, but the fruit of the cross. “If only you knew, [Jerusalem], on this day what can bring you peace” (Lk 19:42). The peace that Jesus offers is not a fragile agreement between enemies, but a peace born of the cross – a peace that comes from a God who gives himself completely and needs no violence or weapons. This is the paradox we must embrace today.”

A beautiful viewpoint

A loving memorial with the (desired) idea of a peaceful life in our homeland and the hope of a celebration for the 100th anniversary in 2045. A well-chosen ambience to underline this.

Even on April 14, 2024, the ascent to the Bastberg was not possible after the signposting (weather good for hiking but still very high risk of slipping, muddy and surface water!!!), another ascent should be signposted - I found one 300m towards the town then up the meadow on the right.

Very nice hiking tour; the excellent starting point has no parking (currently a building materials warehouse) but there is a very good parking lot in the upper village opposite the Rika restaurant. The advertised length of 19.1 km is too far for this topography (not suitable for families).

The climb to Bastberg is an unreasonable task in rainy weather, with a very high risk of slipping. This comment applies to some sections (climbs) of the “Beaver Path” circuit. Good sure-footedness is also required.
