An ancient, flat boundary stone at the center of a crossroads, today one of the more than 300 knight's stones of the Palatinate Forest Association (PWV). A bench is within sight. The Schwörstein bears NO boundary markers, as these were located on a (loog) tree next to it (which no longer exists). "Here once ran the border between the Upper or 1st Haingeraide and the Middle or 2nd Haingeraide [= various forest cooperatives of the surrounding villages]. [...] At the Schwörstein, since around 1560, the foresters of the Haingeraide were once again sworn in to the protection of the forest." Source (partially quoted verbatim): "Knight's Stones in the Palatinate Forest," book by Walter Eitelmann, self-published by the Palatinate Forest Association, Neustadt (Wstr.)

An interesting short crossing of the Bärenschlucht. You get to the ford via a narrow, steep path. This ford can only be identified by the stones and a few rotten boards. But that's what makes it interesting and adventurous. Luckily, the stream is only 10 cm deep at most, so even I, a non-swimmer, could survive 😉 On the right side of the stream in the direction of Eußerzhal, you can see that the path is rarely used anymore. High weeds with thorns make it difficult to walk.

The new fountain had a lot of water when I visited and the trough was full. (Very refreshing) If you come from above (the Beutelsberg), you can reach the fountain directly via a narrow path. (The branch is difficult to see without GPS or Komoot) The path branches again just above the road and you have to take the right branch to get directly to the fountain. It is then about 20 meters below the road downhill.

A bench under a rock, suitable for resting in any weather. It is a very quiet, contemplative place that is rarely frequented. From the bench you have a view of the ford where two streams meet.

Unfortunately, it was occupied by many construction vehicles, so parking space for hikers became scarce (08/24) Update 05/24/2026: Discovered during our bike tour. In the meantime, there is a second parking lot, where places were still free even in the late afternoon.
