The Old Synagogue of Wittlich is now a cultural and conference center, open almost daily (2 PM - 5 PM; Wed also 9:30 AM - 12 PM; closed: Mon). You can see the beautiful, large former prayer room (= today event room) as well as a large, very interesting permanent exhibition about the history of this synagogue, built in 1910, which was desecrated inside during the November Pogrom of 1938. The building was preserved, however; the city bought it at a much too low price. From 1940 to 1944, it served as a prison camp for French prisoners of war and forced laborers. Afterwards, the synagogue fell into disrepair until the city of Wittlich acquired it from the Jewish Community of Trier in 1975 and later renovated it (reopened in 1977). The Jewish community of Wittlich was completely wiped out in the Holocaust (deportations began in Wittlich from Oct. 1941). A memorial (= walled-off former Torah shrine) is located to the left of the entrance to the synagogue.

Perfect terrain for a 10 or 21.1 km run. Afterwards, you can even stop off at the Kleiner Mühle (Little Mill) thanks to the new bridge. A highlight for mountain biking, too! 🍻🚵🏃♂️ Wonderful! 😮💨

It always looks absolutely beautiful in winter. It's just as enjoyable to run in the snow as it is in 30-degree heat. Great trail! From the Roman villa to the Old Pleiner Mill, it's the most beautiful section for running. 🏃♂️📯❤️🙌

An information board and a ground marker indicate that the 50th parallel north crosses here. The back of the information board explains that this path is part of a hiking trail, aptly named "Gradwanderung," which crosses the 50th parallel more than 25 times.
