Next to the current church tower, the windmill „De Windvang“ is one of the landmarks in the north of the former island of Goeree-Overflakkee in South Holland. The windmill, probably built on a stone foundation as early as 1720, is a grain mill. It is therefore referred to as a „stone Bodensegler“ (built of stone on an elevated ground to better utilize the wind; Notebaart 1972). Until the mid-1950s, the mill was in operation, then fell into disrepair, and has since been extensively renovated and restored three times (1972/72, 1995/96, 2005), so that it is fully functional again today. According to the explanations at the mill, it is „the only mill in the Netherlands whose mill floor is not at ground level, but is exclusively accessible from the outside via two staircases“.
