The quaint half-timbered building at the entrance to Bierlings is popularly known as the "Zollhäuschen" (customs house). It was once the office of Martin Seifer's sawmill. The sawmill ceased operations in the mid-1960s for economic reasons. The sawmill building was demolished in 2005, leaving only a storage shed and the Zollhäuschen.

Once the bridge is finished, it will be very quiet in the town of Horb, in terms of traffic!

Beautiful and modern building. The interior design is equally impressive.

To the hiker / walker lingering at this sacred wayside shrine, I would like to offer a short excerpt from Christiane Völkel as a meditative reflection, in which she explains to us – or perhaps better put: precisely – in the face of the cross, that "our perspective is heaven": + "We Christians have experienced that God follows up his promises with actions. Just as he sent Jesus [whom we encounter at this crucifix, nailed to the wood of the cross] into the world to bring us the 'Good News' [this is the translation of the word 'Gospel'] of his love and salvation, to work in miracles and signs... so he has also made known to us through him that our perspective is heaven, here on earth and after our death in a transfigured but real way in his divine perfection."
