In German, it's called "Road of Ore." Since the Middle Ages, iron ore was transported along this route from the Fursil mine near Colle Santa Lucia to the smelting furnaces in Buchenstein Castle (Andraz) and beyond the Valparola Pass. A 10-kilometer journey, certainly a grueling trek. The Diocese of Brixen claimed all the profits. The famous and highly learned Bishop Nicholas of Cusa didn't even shy away from forging documents to secure them. (PDF: https://t1p.de/yb4mv) Cusanus was eventually removed from office.

Despite being very popular and marred by bulky repeaters and antennas, the 360° panorama is astonishing, especially if you are able to identify each individual peak; the list is extraordinary!

One of my favorite villages in the Dolomites for its wonderful location, at the foot of Monte Pelmo, the Cinque Torri, and with views of the Marmolada. It's a village with a natural balcony at the foot of Passo Forcella Staulanza, Passo Giau, and Colle Santa Lucia.
