Stenio Melani
April 4, 2026, View of Lake Iseo

Lake Iseo offers spectacular panoramic views, ideal for trekking and photography. The best spots include Corna Trentapassi (1244m) for a 360° panorama, the Parzanica viewpoint, the Eremo di San Defendente, and the summit of Monte Guglielmo. Monte Isola and the Piramidi di Zone also offer unique views.

San Defendente offers an extraordinary view of the lake, from Lovere to Monte Isola to the southern shore, and of the Corna Trentapassi. For this reason, it is among the most beloved places in Solto Collina, a destination for walks and for a popular festival on the first Sunday of July. The church is currently managed by the local Alpini group. Documents from 1574 attest to bequests for the construction or renovation of the building, which was guarded over the centuries by laypeople residing in the structure annexed to the church.

The climb is quite strenuous and there are few observation points. Those that exist obviously offer fantastic views! The Cinque Colli, however, disappointed me a bit...

Lake Gaiano was once one with Lake Endine. Then, according to geologists, millennia ago the Borlezza Stream, continually excavating its bed, created a dividing rise to the east, at the level of the current Cava Cantamessa, creating the two lakes. The lake is small and particularly muddy to the east, with a large reed bed. From here, the Oneto Stream flows, flowing through the small plain before flowing into the Borlezza River at Pianico, its tributary. It is shallow and hosts several species of aquatic birds, depending on the season. A beautiful cycle/pedestrian path has been created on the southern side of the lake, along pre-existing paths, allowing visitors to safely enjoy the beauty of the area. Almost parallel to the lake, but further east and below the slopes of Monte Na, is the Valle del Freddo, separated from the lake by a small wooded ridge.
