Certosa/Karthaus in the Schnalstal Valley The monastery of Allerengelberg in the Schnalstal Valley The small village of Certosa/Karthaus lies at 1,300 m above sea level and is the capital of the Schnalstal Valley. Certosa/Karthaus was once a Carthusian monastery, founded in 1326 and dissolved by Emperor Joseph II in 1782, after which farmers settled within the monastery walls. The monastery wall shapes the tranquil village to this day. The renovated cloister today hosts art exhibitions and starts a historical tour with twelve stations that lead through the entire village. A meditative herb garden invites guests to relax; the contemplative hiking trail Via Monarchorum leads to the former monastery from various directions. Karthaus Monastery A very special cultural expression of South Tyrol is found in the Karthaus Monastery in the idyllic Schnalstal valley. In Katharinaberg lies the Karthäuserkloster Allerengelberg, a structure that can look back on a long and interesting history. In 1326, Carthusian monks founded the monastery and lived very secluded lives, according to the rules of their order. Nevertheless, the Karthaus Monastery grew quite rapidly from its inception. For about three hundred years, brothers of the order lived in religious unity, until it was dissolved as a monastery in the 17th century. The Karthaus Monastery was subsequently sold to merchants and farmers. Finally, the complex was expanded with residential buildings, so that today one finds an entire village with the monastery at its core. https://www.suedtirol-netz.de/165/kirchen-und-kloester/klosteranlage-karthaus.html

Karthäuserkloster Allerengelberg, Certosa The Allerengelberg Monastery in the Schnalstal valley The monastery village of the Carthusian monks Behind the tranquil village of Katharinaberg in the Schnalstal valley stands the Allerengelberg Monastery, founded in 1326 by the Carthusian monks. For over 400 years, the brothers of the order lived here in seclusion and silence. In the course of secularization, the monastery in Karthaus in the Schnalstal valley was dissolved in 1782, and the monastery buildings were converted into residential houses. During a village tour, the former Karthaus monastery is still easily recognizable. Despite a devastating fire in 1924, the former prior's house, as well as remnants of the monastery walls and the monastery gate, are still preserved today. Visiting the monastery village is permitted all year round, and guided tours take place once a week during the summer months. The cultural project Silentium focuses on the special tranquility that still prevails in Karthaus. The project group organizes changing art exhibitions in the cloister and established the Via monachorum, a spiritual hiking trail to the monastery. Hello everyone, we walked from the Rableid Alm to the Stettiner Hütte on July 12th, 2024 in pouring rain and thunderstorms. After we arrived at the first plateau, we walked the rest of the way up over snow fields without knowing where we were going - about 5 degrees outside temperature - Nevertheless, we arrived safely at the Stettiner Hütte. We spent the night there and were very sad about what was on offer up there... 50 cents for a 30-second shower is a disgrace. The shared rooms are like chickens on a perch... 1 shower and 1 toilet for the whole floor... and the breakfast the next morning... incredibly little and one-sided... Conclusion: never again...tourist rip-off
