Construction phase However, since promising silver discoveries had been made during the excavation of the 13-Lachter tunnel and also in the aforementioned mines, in 1844 work began on sinking a directional shaft from the 19-Lachter Adolph tunnel in the hanging wall of the passage. This tunnel had in turn been started in 1809 from a new entrance and had been penetrated in 1819 with the Haus Sachsener shaft. During the sinking, a breakthrough was to be made from the Ernst-August shaft with the help of a location to the abandoned mines on the Haus Ditfurter passage. It was not possible to rely on exact mine plans from a surveyor, but the approximate location was estimated. In the event of a breakthrough, the old structures were to be dismantled and extensive vein investigations carried out.

History After Duke Henry the Younger ordered the resumption of mining at the beginning of the 16th century, the town of Wildemann was founded. In addition to the 13-Lachter-Stollen and the 19-Lachter-Stollen, which became important water drainage tunnels for decades, several other mines were built on the Haus Ditfurter Gang. These included the Wildemann and Alter Deutscher mines. They were merged in 1712 and operated as the Alter Deutscher Wildemann mine. The mine had two artificial shafts and one conveyor shaft. The Haus Ditfurth mine was also in operation at this time. However, over time all of the mines had considerable problems with water management, which led to the final cessation of operations in 1739 after several attempts to open them up.

The Ernst-August mine was an experimental structure in the 19-Lachter-Adolph tunnel. This experimental structure was intended to open up the deposit there from the blind shaft of the same name. At times the Ernst-August shaft served as a light shaft for the Ernst-August tunnel. Today the shaft is part of a show mine.

I used to swim here every now and then. It was and still is forbidden 🚫 but when you're young you tend to overlook it 😃 The small pond is now always a place to stop for relaxing breaks on bike rides or hikes!

A beautiful little pond that was created after the ore mining in this pit. A small hidden biotope is created here and you can find peace and relaxation here.
