This raised bog has been largely drained. In the center are treeless remnants of the former peat body. There are four large, now water-filled peat pits here, where a renaturation process is hesitantly taking place. The remaining area is now largely wooded with birch and pine.

The Venner Moor is a former raised bog west of the Davert, near the village of Venne (municipality of Senden, Coesfeld district, North Rhine-Westphalia) between the Lippe and Ems rivers, located directly on the Dortmund-Ems Canal. The total area is approximately 148 hectares. It is designated as a nature reserve and as a protected area within the meaning of the FFH Directive. The watershed between the Ems and the Rhine runs through the Venner Moor.

Schnippenburg Archaeological Site In this unassuming wooded area lies a significant Iron Age archaeological site, of which hardly anything remains today. Hidden between two main ridges of the Wiehen Hills, there once stood a roughly 1.5-hectare rampart fortified with a stone, timber, and earth wall. Constructed around 270 BC, it was burned down and abandoned barely 150 years later. Much evidence suggests that this site was not permanently inhabited.

Until the 1960s, the so-called "Black Chalk of Vehrte" was mined in the black chalk pit and used primarily for paint production. Dried and ground into powder, it was exported to destinations as far afield as the USA.
