As an episcopal parish church, Trinity is part of the global Anglican Communion. Our Victorian Gothic-style building dates from 1883. We are part of a tradition that is both Catholic and Reformed, sometimes referred to as the “Via Media” – the “middle way” between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. Trinity is located in the heart of the city and has served the community since 1864. We are certified as a “National Jubilee Center” for our commitment to those in need. We open our doors and our arms to the hungry, the abused, and the addicted. As we also regularly serve as a venue for the performing arts, we see ourselves as a “village church,” true to our Anglican heritage.

First Congregational Church – Memorial Plaque (1999) Shortly after white settlers came to the area in 1856, J.K. Miller held religious meetings in the home of Daniel and Sarah Carter. From these gatherings, the First Congregational Church emerged, founded on March 2, 1862, with Reverend Charles G. Brisbee as its minister. Deacon Samuel Hitchcock, a builder from Alpena and a founding member of the church, advocated for the acceptance of people of all faiths. The first church was built on this site in 1868. Jesse and Anna Besser donated funds for the current concrete block church, built in 1955. In 1961, the congregation joined the United Church of Christ.
